What is the "Follow Me" Button on the MRCOOL Remote? Ask the Expert 361

What is the "Follow Me" Button on the MRCOOL 4th Generation Remote Control? We bet Dan can give us a great answer!

Let's shed some light on a feature that some of you might be curious about but haven't fully understood yet - the "Follow Me" function on your MRCOOL 4th Generation Remote control. The "Follow Me" function is a fantastic feature designed to enhance your comfort and optimize energy efficiency. Let's dive into the details and explore its benefits: First off, how do you find and set the Follow Me setting? Start by pressing the "Set" button until you see the top icons cycle to the little person symbol. From here you will find that it has Personalized Temperature Sensing! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! The Follow Me function utilizes a built-in temperature sensor located in the settings on the remote. This allows your MRCOOL system to measure the temperature precisely in the area where you are located, rather than relying solely on the sensor located on the indoor handler. It ensures that your AC system adjusts to your comfort level accurately. In addition to that, it will Enhance your Comfort! Your MRCOOL mini-split heat pump can provide personalized comfort! You can adjust its cooling output based on the temperature readings from the remote control. So, whether you're sitting on your couch or working at your desk, the AC system will strive to maintain the desired temperature right where you are. And most importantly, Energy Efficiency! By using the Follow Me function, you can optimize energy usage. Instead of cooling the entire room or relying on a fixed setpoint, the AC system will adjust its cooling operation based on the temperature around you. This helps reduce energy consumption and ultimately saves you money on your energy bills.

Quick tip for the "Follow Me" function.

Remember, the Follow Me function works best when the remote control is within the line of sight of the indoor handler. So, keep that in mind to ensure optimal performance! If you have any other questions about the MRCOOL 4th Generation Remote Control, leave a comment and we'll be able to help! Thanks Dan!

Follow me mode seems to turn off when the air handler is turned off. How do I make follow me mode the default?

Since it is a mode wherein the air handler is constantly communicating with the remote, there is not a way to make it the default when the air handler is turned off, when it essentially refreshes and goes back to default programming.

Dan, I’ve not connected my MrC DIY 24K mini split to my phone. I’m pretty afraid of messing up with my phone. Can you explain in one of your videos?

On the Mr. Cool DIY, what happens when the "Self Clean" button is pushed.

The unit will intentionally create frost then rapidly thaw it to essentially wash the unit out. The fan will then blow, and the heat will turn on in order to blow dry the unit.

Dan, are you an actual employee of Ingram's? Or a paid spokesperson? My husband and I are having a discussion about it. He thinks you are an actual Ingram's employee, but I think that you are a comedian, who does the videos for Ingram's. BTW, we have 6 Mr Cool mini splits in our home, purchased from Ingram's. ?

You videos are informative and our host always makes me laugh. I think he is the “Car Talk” of the HVAC world. Keep it up!

I have a me cool generation 3 with remote. The remote does not have an on and off option. I want to turn it off for the winter and use my furnace. How do I shut it off?

Thanks for including the Line of Sight detail. The documentation on this feature is poor at best. I'm assuming the temperature displayed on the remote is what it is currently measuring and the temperature displayed when the up or down button is pressed is what the indoor unit will attempt to bring the room temperature to at the remote's location. Besides quiet fan mode, is there any way to lower the fan speed when in Auto mode?

It doesn't work in wifi mode.

So what's the benefit of this setting? If I take the remote with me to my bedroom but I'm not in line of sight with the unit, then it doesn't work? The only time I have LOS with the unit is when I'm in the same room?
