Wood Stove Heating is Better than Ever

Do you dislike gas heat because it dries out interior air? Do you think electric heating is way, way too expensive? Have you considered a wood stove? Modern wood-burning machines are much more efficient and effective than what your great grandparents relied on. Could one of the latest models be the right choice for your home?

Adapting to the Wood Stove Lifestyle

A wood stove does present a peculiar problem other systems don't, because the wood you need to burn isn't going to just roll into your house. So, if you invest in one, how do you go about getting fuel for the fire? The cheapest way is the most obvious: cut your own timber, split the logs, and stock up for winter. Of course, there are plenty of reasons why you can't or don't want to do that. Folks who live in modern suburbia probably don't have a lot of standing timber at their disposal. Those who do might not be too keen on doing all the back-breaking labor required of a lumberjack. Plus, chopping down trees isn't exactly the safest hobby one could have. Fortunately, it is fairly easy in most parts of the country to buy cut, stacked, and dried wood. This wood is available at fairly reasonable prices, dependent upon local conditions. For those who are dead set against buying wood, check with your local national park. Seriously, you can get a permit from the US Forest Service to carry off dead timber. While still hard work, this is considerably safer than cutting down your own trees.

Aesthetics & Appeal

Frankly, there is no heating system with more charm than a crackling wood fire. A wood stove makes a great centerpiece for any family room. And the latest models come equipped with blowers to distribute the heat across the home.
