How Does a Backup Heat Kit Work? - Ask the Expert Episode 244

Today's question comes from Tammy. "Hey Dan, if the heat pump condenser goes out, how does a heat kit work as a backup?" That's a good question. I think in a video recently I said you could get a heat kit as a backup in case your condenser goes out. So, if your condenser was out, how would it come on? Easy. The heat kit doesn't go in the condenser. It goes in the indoor air handler. It doesn't matter if the condenser is thrown into a dumpster on fire covered in hobo vomit. Doesn't matter at all. The heat kit doesn't care. It doesn't need the condenser. They aren't connected.
