You’ve got lots of different options for the “best” air cleaner. A lot of it depends on what you are looking for. The MrCool Universal air handler comes with a metal mesh filter, and that’s perfectly fine if you just want to use that. I would not go above merv 8. If you go higher than merv 8 you might start to negatively impact performance because the better a filter or cleaner is, the more it’s going to impact air flow. And HVAC units like the MrCool Universal need air flow to not suffocate and die, like a beached dolphin.
