What is the Best Way to Heat and Cool a Shipping Container? - Ask the Expert Episode 191

Today's question comes from Litz Derencourt. "Hi, I wanted to ask how many BTU's should I use to heat and cool a shipping container that is 20x8x8?"

To heat and cool a shipping container you may think you won't need a very big unit, but there are some things you need to consider. Once you get the steel shipping container, it's not going to have any insulation.

If you didn't put any insulation in, it's either going to be crazy hot in the summer or crazy cold in the winter. So, that's going to affect stuff. So, depending on your insulation, and where you are, that's going to have a big impact on what sized unit you need.

If you're somewhere where it's really hot, you might need something a bigger unit. If you're in a colder climate, you might not for cooling. I would find a guy to do a manual j load calculation just to see because this is not something we typically think about in the heating and cooling industry.
