Is There A Better Heat Pump For Cold Climates? - Ask The Expert Episode 322

Today's question is from Eugene Desjardins. "Hey Dan, I have a MRCOOL 5 ton Signature series heat pump bought in 2016 from Ingram's. One of the problems I have is that I live in Northern Maine and my heat pump doesn't work well in cold weather, especially the defrost. Can I install the MRCOOL Universal 5 ton heat pump instead, which seems to be rated for cold climate and think it has smart defrost?" Yeah. Regular heat pumps, like the Signature series, don't do too well in really cold climates. But the Universal will do much better because it is made to be able to handle colder climates like in Northern Maine.
