Is It Safe to Mix Refrigerants?

Welcome back, or welcome to The Cold Standard for those of you who are new here! Today we’re discussing mixing refrigerants. Can you do it? Is it safe? Is it legal? Glad you asked. No!!! It’s not safe, and it’s not legal! R32 is an A2L refrigerant, and it’s not made to top off an R410A system. The pressures are different, the flammability is different, and R410A is a blended composition whereas R32 is a single component composition.Aside from these specific refrigerants, it’s not safe or legal to mix other refrigerants either. Mixing refrigerants is only creating irreversible damage to your unit, which will be much more costly to fix in the long run. In short: don’t do it!  For this or any other questions, reach out to one of IWAE’s experts over at IWAE.com or call 270-575-9595
