Can I Install a MrCool Universal with a Pre-Charged Line Set and Keep the Warranty? - Ask the Expert Episode 267

Today's question comes from Brian Roth.

If I use the MrCool Universal line sets and install the system myself, the MrCool Universal still have a warranty on the equipment?

The MrCool Universal is a central heating and air unit from MrCool. Normally, heating and air units are not intended for do-it-yourself installation. The Universal is a quasi-DIY unit. For instance, if you are a homeowner and you do use the No-vac Quick Connect Line Sets, the warranty is still good. However, if you don't use the pre-charged lines and you install it as a homeowner, you then void the warranty.

    Hello Mr. Ski,
I’m looking at getting MRCOOL Olympus Series Multi-zone 36K, split type unit, Model: MULTI4-36HP230V1 that comes with an “uncharged” lineset kit. Is the outdoor unit comes precharged? If not, can I use a “precharge” lineset instead? I plan to install it myself…thank you

The Olympus cannot be used with a precharged line set.

I need a detail on the return air installation. I currently have a upflow with return on the lower left of the cabinet.

I need to move an installed unit with the pre-charged line set to another location. Is there anything special that needs to be done before closing the valves on the condenser and disconnecting the fittings?

The manufacturer does not specify a particular procedure for disconnection and movement. There is nothing special to our knowledge outside of, basically, running the installation in reverse.

How far do you have to set a Mr. cool outside unit from a gas main.

The manufacturer provides no specific metric. The condenser should be sited with respect to the minimum distances as detailed on page 9 of the installation manual.

The 1984 New York Knicks were terrible. But I think we all need you to do a video about the 1994 New York Knicks!
