Can I Put My Condenser Anywhere I Want? - Ask the Expert Episode 153

Sometimes you may just want to hide your condenser so it can't be seen. Out of sight, out of mind, right? But seriously, you should really think about its placement before you try putting it just anywhere.

Video Script:

The question for today comes from Chris. "Hey Dan, can I put my condenser in a garage, or under my deck or in a grove of bushes?"

No. You can't do that.

This is a situation when you are cooling a house and you have the indoor air handler and the outdoor condenser. All the heat is going to come back outside to the condenser and it has to put that heat somewhere. You can't just have it in some bushes because then it would just suffocate.

Think about like wherever you would put a baby, you could put a condenser. And if you would not put a baby there, do not put a condenser there. You monster.

Where I've seen people put the condenser would be directly under the drip line of the roof which has no gutters. Would this be a problem?

You can put the condenser there. However, you might want to build a small roof to protect it from the elements. You don't have to do that, but it will help the condenser last longer.
