In a new air conditioning system, does the refrigerant need to be the same in the unit and the air handler? In this episode, Dan Danowski helps to clarify the answer.

Our first question today is from Dean, sent via Yahoo in America. Can I use an R410A condenser with an R22 air handler?
No, you cannot. To make a short story long, R410A and R22 are refrigerants. They are both good refrigerants and they both work, but they have to be charged in the system at different pressures. R410A is a higher pressure system and R22 is a lower pressure system. Putting them together would be like putting two cats in a box and sending them down the stairs and they roll onto your teenage son that's been a little mouthy lately and the cats are still fighting and you say, "Run son!" but he doesn't.
