Does a Heat Pump Come Pre-Charged With Freon? - Ask the Expert Episode 112

If you are getting a heat pump, you might like to know if it's already pre-charged with Freon. Well, the answer to that question may be different than you expect. Video Script: Our question today come from Michael on the internet. He asks: Does a heat pump come with Freon in it already? Freon is actually a trademarked brand of refrigerant and it's also a previous generation refrigerant. There's actually not a lot of refrigerant out there called Freon anymore because R-22 is being phased out. We still call it Freon because it's kind of like Kleenex. The brand became the name for the product. However, a heat pump generally does come with refrigerant in it. Most heat pumps are pre-charged from the factory. Pretty much any product you're going to find on iwae.com is going to be pre-charged. If it's not pre-charged we usually say it's dry. That means there is nothing in it. Have more questions? Great video. Covid19 has taken my sanity. Thanks for facts about air conditioner systems. It will go a long way to helping me install my new air conditioner, and maybe Ill be able to practice social distancing in comfort. I hope i dont go blind.

Wondering if they have a system that is pre charged that I can run ductwork for like an air handler with the condenser outside. Its a small home I'm building with spray foam.
