If you are getting a heat pump, you might like to know if it's already pre-charged with Freon. Well, the answer to that question may be different than you expect.

Our question today come from Michael on the internet. He asks: Does a heat pump come with Freon in it already?
Freon is actually a trademarked brand of refrigerant and it's also a previous generation refrigerant. There's actually not a lot of refrigerant out there called Freon anymore because R-22 is being phased out. We still call it Freon because it's kind of like Kleenex. The brand became the name for the product.
However, a heat pump generally does come with refrigerant in it. Most heat pumps are pre-charged from the factory. Pretty much any product you're going to find on iwae.com is going to be pre-charged. If it's not pre-charged we usually say it's dry. That means there is nothing in it.
