Do I Need To Buy Extra Accessories If I Buy A DIY? - Ask The Expert Episode 310

Today's question is from Marvin. "Hey Dan. What else do I need to buy? A quick disconnect for electric? Line set cover? What else?" This was asked on the MRCOOL DIY product listing. I'm assuming he's asking what else he needs to buy besides what comes with it. At minimum you will need a disconnect box, electrical whip, and either a wall mounting bracket or base pad.

My car shangri-la question is: For the Mr Cool diy, can a licensed plumber (or someone licensed to do AC work) swap out the diy pre-charged line set (comes max 25') for a non diy line set that needs to be charged? I ask because I bought a 3 head unit, and the contractor that installed it (and measured) mis-measured the distance for the 3rd head and now I've got an extra 12k head that is too far from the condenser. Ok bye!

A contractor should be able to do that, but it may void the warranty, as it is not how it was originally intended to be installed.

Hi Dan, When the time comes, How do I clean the evaporator on a 4-5 ton Mr. Cool tall-boy up-flow heat pump with all that copper piping running across the front of the A-frame? It appears the back may have been accessible if their were to be a removable panel. Okay, Bye

You can dust it with a compressed air canister. You can also use a no-rinse cleaner and have the liquid drip into the condensate pan, or if there's debris that won't go away, you can use extreme care to gently scrub it off with a pliable brush. Please be sure to use extreme care when it comes to this, because it's easier than you think to damage the coils. If you'd rather have an HVAC professional maintain and clean this for you, there's no shame in that!
