How Often Should I Have My HVAC Serviced? - Ask the Expert Episode 108

Having your HVAC serviced is critical to the health of your air conditioner. In this episode, Dan Danowski explains how often your HVAC system should be serviced in order to keep it running better, longer. Video Script: Welcome to Ask the Expert with me, Dan Danowski. Today's question is from Judy in New York, New York. The Big Apple! "Hey, Dan! How often should I have my HVAC serviced?" I would recommend you get your HVAC system checked once per year. Proper HVAC maintenance is really important to keep your system running efficiently and without breakdown for a long period of time. Have an HVAC technician come out before it gets hot, preferably in the spring. He will check your air conditioner. Then it will be ok for the summer. He cleans the coils off and you're going to get better efficiency and he's going to head off any problems before the come home to roost. For your furnace, or whatever you're going to use to heat for winter, you should get it checked before it gets cold. The tech might say, "hey, this furnace has got a crack in the heat exchanger, and maybe it could blow up and kill your whole family. Maybe even your neighbors. The whole town could catch fire." That would be bad. You don't want that unless you're trying to get some sort of settlement, but anyway... you get that checked first, and everything is fine for winter. If you want to check your ductwork, you can do that anytime you want. Just get under your house and see if there are any cracks in the ductwork or if anything is rusted out. You probably want to do this once per year also. If you've got cracks in the ductwork, you could lose a lot of hot or cool air that way.
