Is It Ok If I Dump R-410A In A Bucket? - Ask The Expert Episode 292

Today's question comes from Henry. "When are you allowed to purge R-410A into a bucket? I told someone it was illegal. Am I right?" First off, you can never purge refrigerant into a bucket. That is definitely illegal. R-410A should be extracted into a safe container, and then it can be reused, or properly disposed of.

Refrigerant only remains liquid while under pressure. Not only is venting refrigerant into anything other than approved reclaiming machine illegal, and can carry a heavy fine from the EPA, it can actually be dangerous because as soon as the highly pressurized refrigerant finds an escape path through the opening created as you vent it, the force of that refringent gas escaping can cause bodily harm such severe frost bite, lacerations to the skin, or eye damage.
