Is My Open Loop Geothermal System Legal for Me to Install? - Ask the Expert Episode 210

"Hey Dan, who would I call to find out if an open loop geothermal is legal for my area?"

Open loop geothermal systems are sometimes called a pump-and-dump system. You can hook them up to a well or whatever source you may have. It's not legal in all places for them to be put in because you have wastewater coming out of the geothermal. Some officials look at it as a pollutant.

Really, there is no pollution, the water is just a couple of degrees warmer and that's it.

To find out if it's legal in your area, you would want to call your local and municipal government. You could call your local inspection department. Or you could just call your city services and ask them. You could probably call your water company.
