With so many kinds of air conditioning systems out there, it's hard to keep up sometimes. In this episode we help to clarify what a package unit is?
Video Script
Our question comes from Nancy in Memphis, Tennessee. What is a package unit?
A package unit is pretty simple. It's a big box that sits outside that sits outside your house and all the stuff goes in it. If you've got an air conditioner it will have a condenser, an evaporator coil, a compressor, and a fan. It is all going to be in this box and it's all going to cool your air. It's going to be hooked up to ductwork and air is going to go in and out and it will blow cool air into your house.
You can do heating and cooling in a package unit. You can get a package heat pump. You can get a gas pack, which is an air conditioner with a furnace. You could get a dual fuel, which is a heat pump and a furnace.
The nice thing about a
package unit is they are really easy to install. You don't have to do anything with refrigerant. Nobody has to charge the system because it comes out of the factory pre-charged and sealed. You just set it on the concrete pad, connect it to the ductwork and you're good. Obviously, you're going to need electricity because it's not like this thing runs on good intentions. We're working on that though.
