Which Refrigerant Should I Use? - Ask the Expert Episode 109

A lot of people wonder if they should stick with old refrigerant like R-22 or go with new refrigerant like R-410A. In this episode, Dan Danowski talks about which refrigerant you should use. Video Script:

Today’s question: I need a new air handler and it uses R-22 refrigerant. Should I get that one or R-410A?

We get a lot of questions about refrigerant, especially the old refrigerant like R-22 and the new ones like R-410A.

R-22 is going to be phased out. It’s going to be gone and you’re not going to be able to find it. If you do, it’s going to be like buying it on the international black market. So, you might as well get some AK’s or something while you’re there.

What I recommend is if you’ve got an old system that uses R-22 then just go ahead and rip that bandage off and get a new system with new refrigerant because you’re going to be setting yourself up for the future and save money because it’s cheaper.

Lots of people are trying to find the R-22 stuff. It’s like a unicorn. And by that, I mean you’re trying to find something that doesn’t exist, but if it did exist, people would hunt it to extinction in like an hour and a half.
