Hi Dan , I bought a 2400 BTU split unit for the master bedroom on the west side of the house upstairs it was always burning hot in the summertime/love it! . It was bought from Ingram's scratch and dent. Installed it myself and it works great! Question ? I have a 30+ year old central air conditioner in the garage with an updraft and has a gas furnace. It's a two-story house that is 2010 ft. It currently has a whirlpool model number NUG1080KH01 . I'm a little confused what size it is! I called whirlpool ,after being switched to different representatives I was told it was a 3 1/2 ton. On the unit itself it does not say. I'm writing you - maybe you can verify that is a 3 1/2 ton! I would like to have a second opinion! I'm also concerned about the furnace , buying the right size. I hope you can clear that up with my concerns. I would like to buy a central air conditioner with a gas furnace at the scratch dent you have online. I bought my Mr cool 24 BTU unit the same way . I would like to do a DYI if possible for the central Air and Heating. Thanks for your time, Danny

Danny, I'm not particularly familiar with Whirlpool products of that 'venerability'! The other complicating factor is that due to the age there isn't much information online for that model number. In this case, I would say to definitely trust the manufacturer. Though what you ought to do is find a local firm that can conduct a Manual J heat load calculation on your home. They can tell you exactly what size you will need, so you can be sure to install the right size system regardless of whether it's 3 1/2 tons or not.
