The MrCool DIY Ductless Mini Split remote helps control the indoor unit to your exact needs. This videos goes into depth about the features included with your MRCOOL unit.
We have unboxed and installed our MRCOOL DIY Ductless Mini Split and we couldn't be more excited. This unit comes with a whole host of great features, starting with the wireless remote. I'm here to show you how to navigate it so you can get the most out of your ductless mini split.
Most importantly, there is the On/Off button. That does exactly what you would think.
Next, there are the temperature up and down buttons. Pressing these buttons will change the temperature in one degree increments. Holding down the temperature button for three seconds will alternate the temperature display from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
The mode button allows you to change the settings from auto, to cool, dry, heat, and fan. The fan button lets you set the fan speed to auto, low, medium, and high.
Next is the sleep button. You can press this button when you're ready to go to sleep. When the unit is in cool mode, it will increase the temperature by two degrees after one hour and another two degrees after two hours. The unit will do the opposite when in heat mode. The unit will turn off after seven hours.
Then there's the turbo and self-clean button. The turbo function allows the unit to reach the preset temperature at cooling or heating operation in the shortest time. The self-clean mode automatically cleans and dries the evaporator and keeps it fresh for the next operation.
Next is the silence/FP button. When the silence button is pressed, the compressor will operate at a low frequency, keeping the unit as quiet as possible. Holding the button for two seconds enables the FP mode or the freeze protection mode. This can only be enabled within the heat setting.
Next is the timer button. The timer On/Off feature is useful when you would like to set the unit to turn automatically on or off at a specific time. Each press will increase the auto time setting in 30 minute increments. When the setting time displays 10, each press will increase the auto time setting by 60 minute increments. To cancel the auto time programs simply adjust the auto on time to zero. The auto time off button to operate in the same way.
The swing button allows the unit to change the direction of airflow automatically. The direct button allows you to set the direction of the air flow.
Pressing the follow me button shows the temperature of any place the remote is located. The remote will send a signal to the air conditioner every three minutes. The unit will then heat or cool based on the unit's location.
Finally, there is the LED button. This button allows you to turn off the LED display so you can sleep in total darkness. Turning off the LED does not change the operation of the unit.

It's innovations like these that make your home a place of comfort.
I set the Cool setting to 72 degrees but once the temperature hits that set point it continues to cool down to 70 degrees. Is it supposed to hit 72 degrees and the condenser turns off until it goes above 72 degrees again?
I'm not understanding how to use the settings to have it operate like a normal AC unit with a thermostat.
I recently installed a 12k cassette and 18k wall handler (4th gen; DIYCASSETTE12HP-230C25 and DIY-18-HP-WMAH-230C25) and they seems to be working well. However, I can't change the display from F to C. The instructions on the remote (for both units) say to hold down both temp buttons for 3 seconds to alternate the display - but it doesn't. It doesn't do anything, and I've tried several permutations of that command to no avail. Am I missing something? Is there another way to change the temp unit?
Dry mode will keep the fan on low and switch between cooling or fan only mode in order to circulate better airflow and keep the unit dry, as well as improving the dehumidification that the system can do. A specific humidity threshold cannot be set, however.
Does the turbo mode in cooling affect only the fan speed of the indoor unit or does it also affect the condenser function?
Does use of the turbo mode adversely affect the system's longevity?
Turbo mode enables the unit to reach the set temperature in the shortest possible time. It can be used in heating or cooling modes and it does utilize the condenser. It shouldn't negatively affect the unit's lifespan with normal use, but could put unnecessary strain on the system if utilized all the time.
So I am so confused on the self cleaning feature. I have a DIY-18-HP-WMAH-230B (multi zone, 27k) and when I press the self cleaning button on the remote the air head LCD displays nothing even though the manual says it should display SC. Someone else posed a similar question on this site but yet I hear no difference in fan speed and have no clue as to what mode the unit should be on to begin with etc. Have called twice on this and the best I have gotten is that it takes 2 hours to cycle through and I clean my coils manually. Please help.
Under self clean, the unit will automatically enter a lower fan speed at a much lower energy level to clean and dry the evaporator to keep it fresh for the next operation.
My 12K 4th gen head keeps powering off. I have an 18k head on the same outdoor unit and it is not doing this. The 12k head also reports an inaccurate room temp of 91. It will allow me to power it back on, but it powers off after a couple of minutes. It is set to 72, auto mode and auto fan mode.
After you activate the Self Clean function, the indoor fan should run on a low speed for 30 minutes. Then it will turn off automatically once complete. Pressing the Self Clean button again or On/Off will cancel the cycle.
Does the temp always light up when it changes? We have the unit set at night time via the app on our phone but when the unit changes temps like from 71 to 70 it will light up - it’s quite bright in the night .
Is there an option to turn sound off? Most of the time the unit beeps when any button is pressed on the remote, however sometimes it stays quiet. I’d like to be able to turn off the beep. Thanks
I have recently installed my Generation 3. When in follow me the fan runs continuously. Is this normal or should fan stop when set temperature is achieved?
Is it necessary to have follow me selected in order for the unit to control to the setpoint on the remote? I have been using it in manual and it does ok but wondering if follow me will improve its ability to heat the room closer to setpoint? Follow me works for a while and then sort stops controlling to Set point and just runs the fan while the remote sits 2-3 degrees below set point. About ready to try a new remote. I have swapped the batteries out a keep it within the distance guidelines. Thanks.
There is no exact procedure on how often you use a mini-split's cleaning cycle. Personally, I would use it once a month or once a quarter depending on individual circumstances. If you have a bunch of pets and a large family, use it more often.
When the timer on displays 10 does that mean it runs for ten hours or will come on at 10am? Same for off....if its set for 18 does that mean it is off for 18 hours or turns off at 1800 (6pm)? Also if both on and off timers are programmed does it alternate between being off for so many hours then coming back on for so many hours or does it come on and go off once each?? Manual nor video clarify this.
The Timer does not correspond to a specific time period. It's more like putting time on an appliance like a microwave. Pressing the Timer button increase the auto-timed setting by 30 minutes. When it display 10, each press of the button increases the time by 60 minute increments. Full details can be found in the manual for the remote control. You can find it here: https://cdn.iwae.com/media/manuals/mrcool/mrcool-series-remote-control.pdf
The LED button only seems to turn off the light of a temperature is displayed. If the two dashes are displayed they will not turn off, and the light is quite bright in our room at night. Is there a way to turn off the lighting for those 2 dashes?
When the unit is set to say 70 degrees and auto, at what temperature threshholds do a/c and heat kick in since you can't set separate temperatures for each?
The Silence / FP seems to only work in heat mode. Now that we're in cool mode, pressing this button does not show on the display nor does it reduce the noise levels like it does in heat mode. Is that normal?
The remote on my 24k Advantage that I bought a few months ago has never really worked on my system. Either the unit doesn't respond at all, or it is super delayed and misses presses. No clue why. Doesn't matter how close or far away the remote is. The only way we can operate our unit is with the Smart HVAC app or with our Echo device but both of these are spotty at times. I would expect the remote to work fairly well but it doesn't. Any ideas what may be wrong?
The manual doesn't explain the Swing / Direct button/feature very well and I didn't get much more information from this video. Do I need to push the Direct button and then the Swing button or are they independent of each other? I push the Swing button and nothing happens. Is there some other place on your website to get more information or is it better to call?
Thanks.
