When deciding whether multi-zone or single-zone ductless is more efficient, it all comes down to a choice. When you are going with a ductless system for the space you are heating or cooling, you probably want the most efficient heating and cooling option available. However, ductless systems give you so many options, it can be difficult to know what is best.

Today's question comes from Brad: "Hey Dan, is it more efficient to run a multi-zone system or a couple of single ductless mini split units?"
That's a really good question, and it really depends. So, if your rooms are pretty isolated, and they are really insulated well, and you are not going to want to run the multi-zone interiors all at the same time, then yeah, it could be more efficient to run a multi-zone because you can turn off different rooms around the house. For instance, you could turn off a spare bedroom that you never use, or an extra room reserved for guests. In that way, it would save you some money.
However, if you don't have good insulation in the interiors and all the rooms are kind of pushed together and smushed, and it is a small place anyway, then it would not matter all that much.
