Is A Window AC Or A Heat Pump Better For Dehumidification? - Ask the Expert Episode 170

There are so many options for cooling your space in the hot summer months, but which option is the best between a window AC and a heat pump? Or does it just depend on your living needs?

Video Script:

Today's question comes from Carole, in North Carolina. "What is better to use to dehumidify, a house with a window AC unit or a heat pump for the summer?"

If you've got a house that's humid, any air conditioner, whether it's a window ac, a mini split, or a big central heating and air system, is going to dehumidify. They all do that, and so do heat pumps. Sometimes though, depending on the size of the system, or if it's sized right, or if you live in an area that has a lot of humidity, you might find that what you have doesn't do enough.

Well, you should either have a guy come out and make sure your system is sized properly, and if that's good, then you could get a whole-house dehumidifier.

If the heat pump and the window ac are the same size then there will be no difference in the dehumidification. Some units, like some mini splits have dry mode where you can dehumidify more quickly.
