What's the best place wood stove installation location in a home?

When you're thinking about where to put a wood stove, you need to consider a few factors:

• You're going to have to clean ash waste out of the stove, so placing the stove in such a way as to facilitate cleaning is a good idea. Basically, you might not want to put the stove right next to the good couch and the fine linens.
• A wood stove, obviously, needs wood fuel, so think about storage before you set up your system. It's going to be a lot easier on you if the wood is closer to the stove, so try to figure that into your plan.

Taking all that into consideration, the best place for a wood stove would be in a basement, utility, or garage space with plenty of room around the unit and access to the air vents if it has a blower.

Unless....

Many wood stoves are purely utilitarian. They're made to heat and not look pretty. Some, but not all. There are many brands that are designed to be the centerpiece of a family room or den. They've got an attractive exterior and a glass door to watch the fire through. Obviously, stoves like that don't need to be installed in a basement or garage. But even a more prominent wood stove installation location should be sure to tie into duct work if it comes with a blower. And don't put it somewhere that would make ash cleanup difficult. Just because you're going to enjoy luxuriant wood-heat doesn't mean you have to make things harder on yourself!
