Spotlight: The Goodman Dragonfly Furnace Integration kit

Director of Digital Operations, Whole Home Expert

As the HVAC industry moves toward more environmentally friendly refrigerants, Goodman introduces the Dragonfly Furnace Integration Kit for R-32 Systems - a must-have for modern HVAC upgrades. Designed to simplify the integration of R-32 refrigerant systems into existing setups, this kit provides solutions for maintaining system performance and safety while ensuring compatibility with new standards.

What is the Goodman Dragonfly Kit?

This conversion kit is designed with sensors that continuously monitor for leaks of R-32 refrigerant and detect it promptly. When a leak is detected, the Dragonfly communicates with the evaporator coil to shut off the connected thermostat. This stops all HVAC operation while keeping the main blower on to dissipate any refrigerant gas.

Why is it necessary?

To address growing concerns about climate change and environmental sustainability, US law requires all new refrigerant systems to have a refrigerant leak detector. It also lowers the risk of the refrigerant igniting.

What systems is the Goodman Dragonfly compatible with?

The kit is made to support HVAC systems that include either of the following combination:

  • a furnace, indoor coil, and outdoor air conditioner or heat pump unit
  • a modular blower, indoor coil, and outdoor air conditioner or heat pump unit

When either the indoor coil or outdoor unit need to be replaced, both should be upgraded to R-32 models to maintain system compatibility. However, the existing furnace or modular blower can remain in place if still operational, reducing unnecessary costs and installation efforts.

Why does my Goodman Dragonfly keep turning off?

If your HVAC system turns off and then back on every five minutes, it could be that the Dragonfly is detecting a R-32 leak. Please call to speak with one of our professional technicians.

This integration kit ensures that in the likely event of a leak, the system’s mitigation protocol is engaged to protect your investment.
