The Best Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Brand Ever

What's the best ductless mini-split heat pump brand in the world?

That's a really tough question. There are a lot of mini-split manufacturers, different brands, different series, and a fair amount of disagreement on what a ductless unit should or should not do well. So while no one can give you a really definitive answer, we can give you some information on how to make the best choice for your home.

The Top Contenders

At IWAE, when we think of the biggest names in ductless, we think of these guys:

  • Mitsubishi
  • Gree
  • MRCOOL
  • LG
  • Daikin

There are certainly others, but these are the only ductless products we felt comfortable offering to our customers.

Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi is not a name many Americans associate with heating and air conditioning. Which is too bad, because Mitsubishi has been manufacturing some of the best ductless products for years. The Mitsubishi Hyper Heat is a great unit for cold climates, and their multi-zone products are effective and efficient. There are a lot of different Mitsubishi mini-split options, so you can probably find what you're looking for.

Gree

Gree is the largest air conditioning manufacturer that most Americans don't even know exists. That's because most of Gree's phenomenal growth has been among consumers inside China or other parts of Asia. Fortunately for us, Gree mini-splits are available in the United States. A more economic choice than some other options, Gree products are reliable and versatile enough to fit most homeowner needs.

MRCOOL

MRCOOL units are the newest addition to the IWAE HVAC inventory. We added them to our site way back in the Dark Ages of 2014. Our main reason to do so was for their MRCOOL DIY product. We were initially skeptical about the DIY, but it's ease of installation blew us away. Given how strong the series sells, American homeowners are just as happy as we are.

It does bear pointing out that the DIY is only one series of MRCOOL products. They do offer a complete line of ductless offerings, but only the DIY is actually do-it-yourself. The other series all require professional installation, FYI.

LG

LG ductless mini-splits have been a contender in the American HVAC marketplace for many, many years, and continue to be in demand. Known for their stylish aesthetics, LG units are as efficient and effective as their competitors. Though they're not cheap, many customers appreciate the look and reputation enough to overlook the price tag.

Daikin

Like Gree, Daikin is a giant HVAC company with which many Americans are not familiar. In addition to owning a couple major unitary brands, Daikin manufactures their own line of quality ductless mini-split products. For a product that gets the job done without a lot of flashy bells and whistles, go for Daikin.

So...the Best Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pump Brand Ever is?

The one that works the best for you!

Seriously, that's not just a cop-out either. There's so much variety and variability among the main brands and series that singling one out as the "best" isn't very useful. Find the one that delivers for you, and on the next sweltering summer day you'll think it is "the best ductless mini-split heat pump brand ever."
